Short course description

The course is aimed at learning the capabilities of modern digital scientific services for preparing a candidate's dissertation, grant applications and publication activity. As a result of mastering the course a graduate student would be able to navigate the features of digital tools for scientific activity and apply them in their own research.

General description of the course concept

The academic discipline “Modern digital services for researchers” is implemented in the optional part of the main professional educational program of higher education - a program for training scientific and pedagogical personnel in graduate school for all areas of training.

The study of the discipline provides the basis for the scientific activity of graduate students in the digital environment at all stages of conducting and administering scientific research.

The goals of the academic discipline “Modern digital scientific services for researchers” are the formation and development of postgraduate students’ skills in using digital services for grant application activities, modern methods for assessing a scientist’s performance, proficiency in academic writing, knowledge of publishing technologies, building a system for promoting scientific results, scientific ethics in digital age, etc.

The discipline involves the following tasks:

  • development of knowledge in the field of scientometric analysis;
  • development of skills in the field of collecting and analyzing data from information and abstract databases;
  • training the effective use of modern digital services in scientific activities (including those related to the submission of scientific manuscripts to journals; promotion of scientific results and the formation of scientific collaborations);
  • training the skills of administering the research activities of scientific teams in the digital environment.

Course unique features

The course is built considering the practical needs of postgraduate students. It aims postgraduate students to prepare a candidate's dissertation during their studies and reveals the attractive factors of the professional activity of a scientist and teacher involved in science at UrFU.
